“British accent”

do people not realise that there are about 74365873465837464 different accents in the UK?

yes. we do. do people realize it’s the same in the US?

Oh man, this is turning into one of my biggest pet peeves. Yes, we realize there are lots of British accents. Each of which it is correct to describe as “a British accent.” Just because I couldn’t sound more different than someone from Minnesota doesn’t mean either of us would be a smug asshole if someone described our accents as American.

This isn’t really directed at the OP per se. I’m sure you’re a lovely person. This whole “no such thing as a British accent” thing just really burns my beans.
